The site is located in Crowborough, a market town to the south of Tunbridge Wells and close to Ashdown Forest, and is a large residential plot with one existing house on the plot. We were asked by the client to design five houses to replace the single dwelling, which were to be a mix of three, four and five bedroom homes all for the open market. A new access road was required and this was located so that the plots would all benefit from south or west facing gardens.
The scheme was submitted for planning and although the Local Planning Authority were originally resistant to five houses and thought four to more appropriate, we worked closely with the planning officer and revised the layout in order to achieve permission for five houses as required by the client.
